On November 26, 2002 Cheryl Eason had left work, and ran some errands. She arrived in the parking lot of her home in the William J Clinton Artist Loft Apartments around 6 PM. She was unloading packages from her red 2000 Ford Focus when a black man approached her. At that same time a witness had driven up to Cheryl and the man standing by her car, to ask for directions. As the witness drove away he heard a gunshot and looked back to see Cheryl on the ground and the man running away. The man ran west across the parking lot and proceeded up Orange St. Detectives located several witness's that saw a man who fit the suspects description, enter an apartment at 110 Pratt St, but the occupant denied anyone had been there. Police were later told that the occupant threatened the witnesses who told police about seeing the man enter his apartment. Police later arrested the occupant at 110 Pratt St for intimidating a witness and obstructing a government operation, however, the occupant still refused to tell law enforcement who entered his apartment that night. Witness's told law enforcement that the man had been sitting on a wall near the parking lot since around 5 PM. Cheryl's body was found by police beside her car near the drivers side door. Cheryl's purse and keys were found at the scene and nothing had been stolen.
