On Thursday, August 14, 2003 between 3:50 PM and 5:00 PM Joan Weigelhofer was shot to death in the Busy Bee Realty office that she owned in Gum Spring, Goochland County, Virginia .

The Busy Bee Realty office is an isolated, stand alone building, located at 4119 Broad Street Road in Gum Spring off of Route 250. Joan's vehicle, a White 2000 Dodge Intrepid, was still in the parking lot on the side of the building.

A few people who passed by the office that day, later reported seeing a dark color sport utility vehicle parked right in front of the door to the office during the time frame of 3:50 PM and 5:00 PM. It is not unusual for people to stop by the realtor's office to pick up pamphlets and they sometimes park in front of the door. However, law enforcement believes that the dark colored sport utility vehicle seen parked directly in front of the office door, may be connected to Joan's homicide.

Joan Weigelhofer was a loving mother of 3 grown children and had 3 grandchildren. Joan was a successful real estate broker and owner of Busy Bee Realty. Joan was a very strong woman who had triumphed over many obstacles in her life. Joan was finally happy and peaceful in her life. Her family misses her very much and seeks justice for Joan's murder.
